What’s Happening at Grace

Dear People of Grace Church,

I am humbled, honored and grateful to be invited to serve as your Interim Priest for the next part of life’s journey.

As a short introduction, I offer these things. My baptismal name is Elizabeth, but I prefer to be called Betty. I grew up in Birmingham Alabama and graduated from Auburn University. Seventeen years later, I graduated from The University of St. Thomas’ St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Seminary in Houston, Texas and was ordained a deacon (1987) then priest (1988) in the Episcopal Church. I am a lifelong Episcopalian and have been active in the Church my entire life.

As a priest, I have served five churches…one each in the Dioceses of Texas, Washington DC and New York and two in Virginia. I retired from parish ministry in November 2015 and my husband, Jim, and I moved to McMinnville, Oregon to be near family. We are so lucky that now all three of our children and their families are in McMinnville…most especially our two grandchildren.

There is much more to my story as I know there is to each one of yours. I look forward to getting to know you by name, hearing your stories and seeing how God is calling us to serve at this time and place. I will be celebrating and preaching this Sunday, September 1. I realize it is a holiday weekend as well as the “last fling of summer,” yet if you are in town, please join us for worship as we begin our journey together.

Blessings, The Reverend Betty McWhorter +
