Jubilee Ministry Center
Grace Church has been designated as the Jubilee ministry Center on the North Oregon Coast since affirmation by the Episcopal Church of the USA in September of 2008. This makes Grace one of over 600 Jubilee Ministry Centers nationwide which are community-based sites dedicated to improving the lives of the poor through programs of outreach, evangelism, empowerment, and advocacy.
The mission of Jubilee Ministry strives “to make a direct and dynamic link between our theology and our ethics.” Although a Jubilee Center can address poverty in a variety of ways, Grace Church chooses to focus on Hunger Issues with its support of the Christ Room, Community Suppers, Rescue Mission meals, and until 2008, a Summer Lunch program, which was assumed by the Astoria School District. All of these ministries have been put under the umbrella Grace Church now calls the “Christ Room Hunger Ministry.” The donations that come into Grace for any of our hunger ministries now go into one account. Jubilee Ministries are so named to reflect the Old Testament practice of equalization of fiscal and other resources every five decades in a “Year of Jubilee.”
We offer prayerful thanks to all who have supported this effort to help feed the hungry in our community over the years. We appreciate what they’ve done in giving of their time, talent, and treasure. Our Christ Room continues to serve many families, and the twice-monthly Sunday meals are always gratefully consumed. Your support of these ministries is essential to their success. Please free to discuss participation with any team member.
Free evening meals are offered to the community at 4 pm on the second and fourth Sundays of the month in the Parish Hall at Grace. This offering is part of the Jubilee Ministry of Grace, given freely to all who enter. Welcome!!
